Although Facebook is slightly on the decline with young people, it is still an important platform of social media worldwide. According to Mercury News, Instagram and Snapchat are on the rise now. Nevertheless, in the most recent surveys, over 70 percent of adolescents still use Facebook. 52% of teens now use Instagram; 41% are using Snapchat, and 33% of teens use Twitter.

 

It took a while, but older people are increasing their use of social media. The percentage of U.S. seniors using Facebook is now over 31 percent. 72 percent of online adults visit Facebook at least once a month as of January 2015 surveys.

 

Looking at the rest of the world, Pew Research says there are 890 million daily active users logging onto Facebook. India, Indonesia, and the Philippines are the biggest users of Facebook in Asia. Canada is the country with the largest number of daily active users, and the U.S. and Canada have 157 million daily active Facebook users logging in.

 

Some of these numbers and surprising and staggering, and they are only going to increase. The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) predicts that by the end of 2014, about 2.9 billion people or 40 percent of the world population will be online. There is heavy movement within the United Nations to make broadband available to all nations in the near future.
